by: Awrad Salih
i was born in DC but im originally from Sudan.Every year my family and i celabrate this holiday called 'Eid ul Fitur'
that means the holiday of fast breaking. before eid we fast a month
wich is called the month of 'Ramadan' and my whole family doesnt eat or drink anything the whole day until a certin time usually after sunset. We pray 5 times a day its important that we pray during Ramandan because we should thank Allah for everything! after the month of Ramadan we have this BIG 3 day holiday called Eid we celabrate this because its like a reward
for fasting and everyone can go back to eating and drinking normaly. When Eid is coming its usualy in Eid ul Fitur is usually in December and we have
another Eid in February for some thing else. Well in Eid ul Fitur my mother,
grandmother, and I make these REALLY GOOD cookies called 'Khabeez' and
those arent only 1 type we have ones with chocalate some vanilla some coconut
some jam and powederd types...My personal favorite is ''ka'ak'' it is sooooo GOOD
its a powderd sugarie cookie thats DELICIOUS!!! we make all these cookies and
we buy ALOT i mean ALOT of candy!! {yuummmmmmmmieep}Then my whole family goes and buys clothes and gifts for e\o but we dont
tell wat tha gifts are!,,, me and my brother have alot of Jordans and we
usually get them on eid with alot of clothes!! my momie buys 'miayat' wich
means bed sheats in arabic..she buys them for every 1's room{WOW THATS ALOT}
she buys more 'tobes' for her and my grandmother...and then the women put on
'henna' to decorate out feet and hands its sooo pretty! then my father and grandfather get their traditional sudanese clothes called 'jalabeeya, markoob, and
imma' and they were that on eid. On eid morning my father, grandfather, and brother
go to the Mosque and pray to Allah, while the women stay at home and get things
readie! we all get wear our new clothes!I alwaiz get to put the 'bakhoor' in the house! {its like a traditional smoke thingy
i cant reallie explain it but it smells SOOOOO GOOD} and it makes every one
and evey thing in the house smell good! then we alwaiz go to the eid prayers
and we see every1 that we kno there! we all wish e/o a
happie eid by saying 'Kullu Sana wu Intu Taybeen, Kullu 'Aam wu into bikhair' wich
means "every year you are good, every day you are_____"(sowwie i 4 got)
There are ALOT i mean ALOT of people praying together!!!
When we come home we open PRESENTS!! and kiss e/o on the cheek and say
'shukran' wich means thank u then my grandmother, mother, and i make
'Fatoor al Eid' wich means eid breakfast only its not break fast its more like
lunch and breakfast together....We make "asseda and mulaah" wich is reallie good
its like this jello looking thing w/ sauce on top!! and my mom makes "Shi'ayreeya''
wich looks like spagetti but its not and it taste realie sweet! also my dad makes
"Buglawi" ((hes a pro at it)) and thats like this sweet pastries! We also make alot of meat((no pork!! thats haram)) and other goodies! then we call
all out family in...LA,NY,MD,VA,SUDAN,EGYPT,& DUBAI and wish every1 a happie
eid we usually say 'Eid Mubark' Wich means "Coungrats eid"{that doesnt make
sense in english so lemme put it this way"Happie Eid" LOL
Masalaama!
