Nile Kids Presents......

Samia from Kordofan

This is Samia. She is from Al Obayyid, a big city in the western state of Kordofan. She goes to school every morning, after helping her mother pick the gum Arabic from the acacia trees near their home.

Samia loves to eat “gongolayz”, and she sits under the gigantic “tabaldi” tree with her friends after school. That tree is where gongolayz comes from. In the afternoon, her mother sits her down and braids her hair with smooth white “Wadi3” shells that she really likes, to get her ready for her friend, Asha’s party.

She and her friends have a great time together at the party, singing, drumming on the “Dalooka”, and dancing the “Mardoom” dance all night. They hate to part, but it’s a school night, so, back home she goes!
